About Beyond Limits Academy
What services does Beyond Limits Academy provide?
BLA provides mainstream driving lessons, learner training,
refresher and confidence lessons, rehabilitation driver
training, adaptive driving training, equipment familiarisation
and post-assessment training following appropriate professional
recommendations.
Which areas do you service?
We service metropolitan Melbourne, including the Mornington
Peninsula, and can consider broader Victorian locations by
arrangement depending on the participant's needs, vehicle
requirements and availability.
Do you use right-hand-drive vehicles?
Yes. BLA operates in Victoria, Australia, and our training is
designed around Australian right-hand-drive vehicles,
Victorian road rules, road signs and local driving environments.
Who can use BLA services?
Our services support mainstream learner drivers, licensed
drivers seeking refresher training, people returning to driving
following injury or illness, people requiring adaptive driving
solutions, and participants referred by professionals.
L
Mainstream
Driving lessons
Do you teach complete beginners?
Yes. We can start from the basics, including vehicle controls,
moving off, stopping, steering, observation, road positioning
and progressively more complex driving skills.
Can BLA help me prepare for my Victorian driving test?
Yes. Lessons can focus on test readiness while continuing to
build the safe judgement, observation and independent driving
skills needed beyond the test itself.
Do you offer refresher or confidence-building lessons?
Yes. Refresher lessons can help licensed drivers returning
after time away from driving or people who want more confidence
with parking, traffic, unfamiliar roads or other specific
situations.
What should I bring to a driving lesson?
Bring your current learner permit or driver licence and
anything legally required for you to drive, such as
prescription glasses if applicable. We will advise you of
any additional requirements when the booking is confirmed.

Rehabilitation
Returning to driving
What is rehabilitation driver training?
Rehabilitation driver training is practical on-road training
for a person who may be returning to driving or developing
driving skills following injury, illness, disability or a
change in function. Training may follow recommendations from
an OT Driver Assessor or another relevant professional.
Is rehabilitation driver training the same as an OT driving assessment?
No. An OT driving assessment and practical driver training
have different roles. BLA provides the practical training
component. Where an OT Driver Assessor has made recommendations,
our training can be structured around those recommendations.
Do I need an OT driving assessment before rehabilitation lessons?
That depends on the participant's circumstances, licence
status, medical requirements and the type of training needed.
Some people may require assessment before training can safely
or appropriately proceed. Contact us with the details and we
can help identify the next step.
Can BLA provide progress information to my treating team?
Where appropriate and authorised, we can communicate relevant
training progress with the participant's OT Driver Assessor or
other authorised members of the support team.
✦
Adaptive Driving
Equipment and modified controls
What adaptive driving equipment can BLA train participants to use?
Depending on the vehicle and professional recommendations,
BLA may support training with spinner knobs and steering aids,
hand control systems, left-foot accelerator options,
reduced-effort steering and customised combinations of
adaptive controls.
Can I choose which adaptive controls I want to use?
Adaptive equipment should be selected through an appropriate
assessment and recommendation process. BLA's role is to provide
practical training with the suitable recommended configuration
rather than independently prescribe equipment.
Can I practise with adaptive controls before buying equipment?
Where the recommended equipment is available in an appropriate
BLA training vehicle, practical familiarisation and training
may be possible before a participant progresses to their own
long-term vehicle solution.
Can BLA train in a participant's own modified vehicle?
This may be possible in some circumstances, subject to the
vehicle being legally suitable, appropriately insured,
roadworthy and appropriate for safe instruction. Please
discuss the specific setup with BLA first.
OT
Professionals
OTs, Support Coordinators & referrers
Who can refer a participant to BLA?
Referrals can come from OT Driver Assessors, Occupational
Therapists, NDIS Support Coordinators, Plan Managers,
rehabilitation providers, TAC or WorkSafe professionals,
families, carers and other authorised people involved in
the participant's pathway.
What information should be included in a referral?
Useful information includes the participant's contact details,
licence status, driving history, service requested, relevant
assessment recommendations, adaptive equipment requirements,
funding pathway, location and training goals.
Can an OT Driver Assessor speak with BLA before referring?
Yes. We welcome pre-referral discussions, particularly for
complex adaptive equipment, functional needs, funding
arrangements or unusual service locations.
Does BLA work from OT Driver Assessor recommendations?
Yes. For specialised pathways, practical training can be
aligned with the relevant assessment recommendations and
agreed driving goals.
$
Funding
NDIS, TAC, WorkSafe, DVA & other pathways
Can NDIS funding be used for driving lessons?
In some circumstances, specialised driver training may be
funded where it is disability-related, reasonable and
necessary, and consistent with the participant's plan and
applicable NDIS requirements. Ordinary driving lessons are not
automatically NDIS-funded. Approval depends on the individual
circumstances.
Does BLA work with TAC participants?
Yes. BLA can support relevant rehabilitation driver training
pathways for TAC participants where the service is appropriate
and the necessary approvals are in place.
What about WorkSafe or DVA?
Relevant driving rehabilitation or equipment-related services
may be considered under WorkSafe, DVA or other funding
arrangements where eligibility and approval requirements
are met.
Can BLA guarantee that my funding body will pay?
No. Funding eligibility and approval are determined by the
relevant scheme, plan, insurer or funding body. We can provide
service information to help the participant or professional
clarify the proposed training.
Funding rules and individual approvals can change.
Always confirm eligibility with the relevant funding body
or authorised representative before relying on funding
for a service.
B
Bookings
Appointments and scheduling
How do I book a lesson?
You can contact BLA by phone, mobile or email, or use the
website contact form. Professional referrals can also be
submitted through the dedicated Participant Referral page.
How long is a driving lesson?
Lesson duration can depend on the type of service and the
participant's needs. We will confirm the duration and fee
when arranging the booking.
What happens if I need to cancel?
Please contact BLA as early as possible. Cancellation and
non-attendance conditions depend on BLA's current booking
policy and any applicable funding arrangement.
Can I request a particular pickup location?
Yes. Tell us your preferred location when enquiring.
Availability depends on the service area, lesson type,
instructor schedule and any specialised vehicle requirements.
A
Accessibility
Communication and additional support
Can lessons be adapted to different learning or communication needs?
Where practical and safe, we can adjust the pace, structure
and communication style of lessons. Tell us about any support
needs when booking so we can plan appropriately.
Can a family member, carer or support person be involved?
Where appropriate, an authorised support person may be
involved in communication or planning. Privacy, safety and
the participant's preferences will be considered.
What if I cannot access information on the BLA website?
Please contact us and tell us what you need. We will try
to provide the information in a more accessible format
or another practical way.
